A few wishes for upcoming OTA updates, from a new #5 Premium owner.

1. Netflix. This is the biggest gap. The Video Center already carries Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Joyn and Plex - Netflix is the one big name missing, and it keeps coming up in this forum.

2. Apple Music as a native app. Amazon Music is already integrated natively, including the Dolby Atmos settings in the #5 section. Apple Music is only reachable through CarPlay, which means the passenger display cannot be used properly for playlists. Adding it natively would close an odd gap between the two biggest music services.

3. Open up the browser. As I understand it, the Video Center is essentially a smart-built browser restricted to a fixed bookmark list. Letting users add their own bookmarks or type a URL would solve several of these requests at once - Netflix included - without smart having to negotiate every single app individually.

4. A real blackout option in camping mode. Right now a few dim presence lights stay on inside the cabin. For anyone who is sensitive to light and does not get on with a sleep mask, those small lights turn a night in the car into a very poor night of sleep. Being able to switch off every interior light completely while camping mode is active would make a big difference for sleeping in the car.

YouTube is already available under the Video Center bookmarks, so that one is covered.

With web browsers being a popular attack vectors, generally opening the browser seems problematic to me:

Having a computer infected with malware can be quite bad already, but the computer of a car seems like it would generally be much worse since it would relate to physical safety of human beings.

Imagine someone claiming that your car is infected and that you should now pay ransom, “or else”. Awkward with a computer, but with a car? How to handle that? Ask smart to check/factory reset the car?

A) Would they do more than just laugh at you?

B) Would you trust smart to be able to do this at all?

Hi smartwell — fair point, and worth taking seriously.

Browser engines are one of the most common attack surfaces out there, and there's real precedent in cars: the 2015 Jeep Cherokee/Uconnect remote hack, and browser exploits landed against the Model 3 infotainment at Pwn2Own. That's presumably why smart ships the Video Center as a closed system with a fixed bookmark list rather than a general browser — a deliberate security posture, not an oversight.

But that argues against "let me type any URL", not against the underlying request. Worth noting too that Jeep is the case that pushed the industry toward stricter domain separation: modern architectures keep infotainment behind a gateway, away from the steering and braking ECUs. Not a guarantee, but it means the realistic exposure from a compromised head unit is account data, comfort functions or a bricked unit. Serious — a different threat model from "someone takes over your car".

So smart could add Netflix the same way they added Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Joyn and Plex: one more vetted entry in the curated list, not open browsing. The ask should probably be "expand the curated list" rather than "open the browser" — same outcome for users, none of the surface you're describing.
